There is NO culture without Black Culture...
Culture is one of America’s most powerful exports to the world, and in ways large and small, Black Americans have shaped that culture. We’ve held an outsized sway on what the US, and consequently much of the globe, deems cool.
Throughout history, Black artists and creatives have used their talents and skills to reclaim our narratives, challenge prevailing stereotypes, and honor our heritage. From the revered sculptures of Edmonia Lewis to the culinary prowess of Edna Lewis; from the cinematic masterpieces of Ava DuVernay to the brilliant stage plays of August Wilson; from the lyrical magic of Billy Strahorn to the expansive musicality of Beyonce, Black arts not only push boundaries but also prompt audiences to engage critically with the imperative for Black representation and a more just, inclusive society.
Creative Curriculum Ventures focuses on the art and culture of African Americans, knowledge often overlooked, undercut, or ignored not only by most mass-produced homeschool curricula but often in traditional school environments. And while CCV looks at the arts through a Black lens, the information and resources provide a more comprehensive and complete story of U.S. arts and culture for all homeschoolers.
