“Educators across our country are opening young minds, fostering innovation, and developing imaginations through arts education. Through their work, they are empowering our Nation's students with the ability to meet the challenges of a global marketplace. It is a well-rounded education for our children that will fuel our efforts to lead in a new economy where critical and creative thinking will be the keys to success.”
President Barack Obama
We believe that when the arts are employed as a tool to bolster other areas of the curriculum, they can captivate students' interest in learning content. We believe that expanding the cultural knowledge of students enhances their self-worth and, when combined with the resources in families and in communities, increases the capacity of families to deliver creative, engaging instruction.
Creative Curriculum Ventures (CCV) develops secular, inclusive, project-based lessons for homeschoolers and references videos, films, and resources that you can access at home. Our interdisciplinary approach looks at history - as well as other subjects - through the lens of creativity and imagination. Because the arts increase students’ critical thinking, curiosity, and imagination, students will deepen their understanding not only of the arts but other subjects as well. While materials are developed for youth 14-18, we also include adapted activities and exercises for younger children.
CCV hopes families will use readily available community assets - documentaries and narrative films, museums and cultural institutions, libraries, for example - to amplify the lessons and instruction provided here. We also include resources for families on teaching and learning, educational research, and and socio-emotional development that can help homeschoolers build additional capacities.
